How to use it

Pick a city — or type coordinates. Fourteen cities are built in; anything else works with a latitude and longitude.
Choose the date. Any day, past or future — day length changes through the year.
Read the times. Sunrise, sunset, solar noon and the total day length, in the city's local time.

About sunrise and sunset times

Sunrise is the moment the sun's upper edge appears over a flat horizon; sunset is when it disappears. Both are computed here with the standard solar-position method used by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which accounts for the bending of light in the atmosphere and the sun's visible disc — so the times match what you actually see, not the geometric centre of the sun.

Preset cities show times in their real local time zone, with daylight saving applied automatically. For a custom latitude/longitude there is no way to know the local time zone from coordinates alone, so those results are shown in UTC with a note saying so. Near the poles the tool tells you honestly when the sun never rises or never sets on your chosen date.
