How to use it
Type the price — before VAT if you are adding it, including VAT if you are removing it.

Read all three figures. Price before VAT, the VAT itself, and the price including VAT are shown together, so an invoice line checks itself.
Adding vs removing VAT — don't mix them up
The two directions are not mirror images of the same multiplication. Adding 20% VAT to 100 gives 120. Removing 20% VAT from 120 does not give 100 back by subtracting 20% (that would give 96) — it gives 100, because the VAT inside 120 is 20, which is 20% of the original 100, not of 120. This calculator does each direction the right way, and shows all three numbers so the maths is visible rather than trusted.
