Why time-zone maths goes wrong
Most mistakes are not arithmetic — they are daylight saving. New York is 5 hours behind London in winter and 4 hours behind in summer; Sydney flips the other way; and the switch dates differ by hemisphere, so for a few weeks each year both hemispheres move in opposite directions. Doing this by hand means tracking every zone's current rule. This converter skips the handwork: it asks your browser's time-zone database for the rules in force on the exact date you entered, so the answer already includes whatever daylight saving applies that day.
